PREREQUISITE(S): Introduction to the Healthcare System (MBA296.3) or
equivalent; or extensive work experience in the healthcare field
CLASS FORMAT (Will there be lectures, cases, or a mixture?):
Each class session will focus on a different health policy topic and will
include a short presentation by a student team, followed by debate and
discussion about the policy alternatives.
REQUIRED
BASIS FOR FINAL GRADE (midterm, final, paper(s), project(s), class
participation, or a mixture):
Policy presentation and analysis; current event; and class contribution.
ABSTRACT OF COURSE'S CONTENT AND OBJECTIVES:
The purpose of this course is to provide students with:
Ø a framework for analyzing policy problems
Ø working knowledge of the policy process
Ø an opportunity to discuss, debate, and analyze
important policy topics facing the healthcare system
Examples of topics are drug pricing/importation, the uninsured, ethnic and
racial disparities in health care, genetics and stem cell research.
